The University of Florida’s Institute on Aging and the Department of Aging and Geriatric Research is dedicated to making a positive and lasting impact in improving the health and quality of life of older adults.

The Institute on Aging (IOA) and its infrastructure provided by the Department of Aging and Geriatric Research came into existence in February 2005. From day one, our goal has been to nourish collaborations between various fields relevant to aging and foster the integration of the latest research findings into elderly patient care, research, and education.

  • The Han Lab – understand how the nervous system maintains its function and integrity during aging. In particular, our current goal is to investigate the underlying mechanisms of adult neurons’ axon regeneration to provide a therapeutic strategy against axonal damage.
  • The Someya Lab – study the molecular mechanisms that underlie cochlear aging and gender differences in hearing in the Department of Aging & Geriatric Research, Institute on Aging at the University of Florida.
